Painful

Yo La Tengo - CD - Rating: 9/10

I am glad I never got in to Yo La Tengo whilst they were coming into prominence. I probably would have bought everything they released on the day it came out. By ignoring them for a decade or two, I was able to limit my music dollars towards buying what is considered by many to be their best record and leaving it at that. The record is very good with several memorable tracks that are awash in feedback and a dreamy ballad or two for good measure.

  1. 2015 Revisit: Yo La Tengo is a band that’s been around forever and is beloved by indy-rockers. They alternate between feedback-filled guitar pop and trying to sound like The Velvet Underground on the mellower tracks. I bought this because I really like the song “From a Motel 6” when I taped it off of 120 Minutes. The rest of the CD is just as good but I have never felt like seeking out other Yo La Tengo records. I have a feeling that, like Superchunk or The Fall, they have tons of good material but you really only need to own one or two of their records to get the point. 9/10
